Seeing the text following the border, would this originally have been painted to be a circle?
Or is the text added after cutting a makuri?

Yang Dechun 楊徳春　1851-1911
Courtesy name; Shaoting 少亭
Passed the imperial examinations in 1874.

It helped me to find other paintings of him. In my opinion they confirm his style.

since I. Nagy has done his? usual masterful job translating, the missing piece of information is that the painter worked on a piece of silk that was already cut into a rough circle. the resulting image would have been mounted to a fan; damage from the central support (cf https://tinyurl.com/44hm8v6p) remains in the upper half of the image.
