Beneath the circled cross, the characters read "Satsuma" (薩摩). Website gotheborg.com shows an example of a similar mark on crackleware but without borders that dates to the early post-World War II era. I have what may be something suitable for comparison in an unmarked Satsuma teapot with very similar crackle. It probably is at least Meiji period but definitely pre-WW II.

I researched this before posting and could not find the exact mark and suspected it was from the last half of the 20th century just as you mentioned.
