Subject:Who are these characters?
Posted By: Beth Sun, Oct 29, 2023 IP: 2600:4040:788a:b900:

I bought these 6 small prints directly from the artist when I was visiting the Songzhuang Art Colony outside of Beijing in the 90's. Now I want to sell it, but everything on it is in Chinese, which I can't understand. I don't know the artist's name or what is written below each print in pencil. Although I can read the date: 1988.

I am hoping to find out who the characters are and what it says below each drawing. (I only show one here.) Can anyone help? TIA

They are prints depicting opera characters.
The one that is enlarged depicts Cao Cao (曹操)
Text written by pencil reads,
戏曲人物 (本刻)12/50 1988 牛文
Opera characters (Woodblock print) 12/50 1988 Niu Wen

Niu Wen 牛文 (August 1922 - August 8, 2009), born in Shanxi,First-class artist, a famous printmaker, was also a retired old Red Army soldier. He participated in the revolution in 1937 and entered the Fine Arts Department of Yan'an Lu Xun Academy of Literature and Art in 1940. Former director of the China Artists Association and vice president of the Sichuan Branch of the China Artists Association.
