Subject:Help with identefying wood in chinese chairs
Posted By: Martin Sat, Oct 21, 2023 IP: 78.152.243.243

The first picture is of a section of an old broken chair which obviously hasnt been polished in years. The second picture is of a section of chair which broke off during transportation showing the dark wood in its un polished state. They are both from same set of old chinese chairs.I posted earlier about note on bottom of one of same chairs.Any ideas on what the wood might be?

Thanks in advance

After some research and reading some previous threads here i decided to do a swab test with cotton budds and denatured alcohol to test if the wood could be zitan.
The first picture is the swab from the chair that the small piece broke off whick looks red.Could this be Zitan wood?
i took another swab from part of another broken chair from the same set which was more brown.the second picture compares the two.i presume the chairs could be made up from different woods.and could it be possible that single chair could be made from more than 1 wood type including Zitan.?
Thank you any opinions.
