Hello Everyone. I have two Asian statues in my personal collection that I am not knowledgeable enough to identify. Any help appreciated. I am trying to index my art.
Statute 1 - Elderly Man. Made of Wood. It is approximately 30.5 cm (12”) tall. Weighs 847 kg (1 pounds, 13.8 ounces). It appears at one time he was holding a staff (now missing). There is a small label on his back which I have not removed - typed on it is “4411 W” (I’m guessing that is some sort of indexing from a previous owner). This one is carved from a piece of some type of unknown wood. There is a small black stamp on the bottom - a partial square with an angle rooftop and inside what appears to be the letter “V” inside.
Statute 2 - Man holding block. Made of … Resin? Soapstone? Other? It is approximately 33 cm (13”) tall. Weighs 1.626 kg (3 pounds, 9.3 ounces). I’m really not sure what this one is made from. It appears it may be some type of resin, but at some points looks otherwise, claylike (see photo of feet).
If any knowledgeable individual could shed any light on the region, character, age, artist, composition or anything else about either of these statutes, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks in advance for any information. Happy Collecting!
Rick
