Subject:What is this Small Chinese Hardwood Carving?
Posted By: Aaron at APEX Antiques Fri, Oct 27, 2023 IP: 118.102.89.169

Greetings ladies and gentlemen of the Forum.
Once again I appeal to your collective wisdom...
This time it's regarding a small (approx 12cm long) hardwood carving of two scholars sitting under a pine tree that I purchased recently.
My question is; Does it have a purpose, could it be a brush rest or is it purely decorative?
Many thanks in advance.

Obviously. it could function as a brush rest. But then, so could a piece of folded cardboard.

For people to offer an intelligent answer to your question, we (they) would need more photos, for example showing the rear view, and the object in some kind of situation. Additionally, some indication of scale and dimension would be helpful.

Sorry it took me so long to respond... life got a little out of hand!

Please find attached an image with a pan for scale that also shows the other side of the carving.
