Subject:Japanese? Pottery

A purveyor of fine porcelain from whom I've bought some of my best Chinese and Japanese wares sent me the below photos of a pair of unmarked bowls he's had at home since the last century and believes to be Japanese, as they originally came to him in a box that also included some Japanese prints.

I'm at a loss as to where and when they might have been produced, though the firing characteristics make them look to have age. I'd much appreciate comments of others to help educate of us.

The white, opalescent glaze (rice straw ash derived?) strongly resembles that on Kainei-type ware, which is a glazed stoneware made starting around the 17th century through the 19th century in the kilns at Hoeryong and/or Myongchon in North Hamgyong Province, North Korea. Have not seen that shape before. See attached pic.
