Posted By: chris Mon, Feb 27, 2023 IP: 79.70.69.44

I would be grateful for any information on this bowl.

The dragon pattern appears four times at equal points around the bowl

The same 12 characters appear above each of the dragon patterns

Date?

Maker?

Value?

thanks in advance

The bowl looks new and probably not made at Yixing, China’s most famous source of fine and antique pottery.

The base mark reads “Made by Chen Shouchen” (Chen Shou Chen zhi - 陳壽臣製).

The only person in any profession identified by Google was Chen Shouchen (陳壽臣) from Zhejiang Province who studied in a Sichuan school. He was a teacher of the ancient Chinese string instrument called a “Qin” in Shanghai at the beginning of the Republic.

I can’t imagine a Qin artist who’d risk his hands modeling pottery but include this in case I.Nagy or others find something relevant in the writing around the outside on the bowl.

Best regards,

Bill H.
