Subject:Celadon Urn Identification
Posted By: Bradley Mon, Sep 26, 2022 IP: 2601:643:180:aab0:80 I inherited these 2 urns from my grandmother, who was in Korea in the late 1960s. Can anyone tell me anything about them, or help me understand the signature? They are 16 inches tall. Thank you very much! |

Posted By: Robert Thu, Sep 29, 2022 They are copies of 12th century Korean Koryo (Goryeo) dynasty inlaid celadons. The one with the high shoulders and constricted base is called a maebyeong vase, a shape probably inspired by Chinese Song dynasty meiping vase forms. The other one is a bottle vase. They were probably new when your relative purchased them in the 1960s. |
