Subject:Japanese Studio Pottery identification
Posted By: Tom G Fri, Oct 01, 2021 IP: 2602:304:322d:1169:3

Hello,
I am hoping that someone will be kind enough to share any information about this set of cups. I bought them used at a flea market in the late 1970s or early 80s. They have always been a mystery to me.
I've heightened the contrast on some photos to make the red chop marks easier to see.
Thank you,
Tom

There is a greater probabiity that it is Korean made than Japanese one. On the Japanese language net I couldn't find any clue to this name.
Inscriptions,
甕形方種 - Pot shaped pottery*
湯呑 - Tea mug(s)
Signature,
悦樂造 - Yeolrak-jo - Made by Yeolrak
(Japanese reading; Etsuraku-zo - Made by Etsuraku)
Seal,
悦樂 - Yeolrak (Etsuraku)

*Pottery with a shape that has a small difference between the rim of the mouth and the neck/body.

With regards,
I.Nagy

Dear I.Nagy,
Thank you for taking the time to reply and for the information provided. Please forgive the long delay in reply, at the time of posting the message, a health issue emerged and by the time it had resolved, I'd forgotten all about my query.
Best Regards,
Tom G
