Posted By: Guy Fri, Jan 28, 2022 It appears to be a preliminary drawing (shita-e) for a woodblock diptych designed by the Osaka artist Nakai Yoshitaki (1841-1899) depicting the actors Nakamura Fukusuke III (1846-88) in the role of lion dancer Senseki Michinosuke (right panel) and on the left Nakamura Keijo (1836-75) as Kagahime and Arashi Gisaburō as Sugihara Kanbei. |

Posted By: Tom Aspden Sat, Jan 29, 2022 Thanks! I too found this image with the help of I. Nagy's translations above. I did wonder about whether it was a preparatory print of sorts, as I have seen other black and white prints with bits missing by yoshitaki on the Wased University's ukiyo-e database. |
