I'm sure I'm wrong but in my basic knowledge the frog is the one who taught the Sennin immortal Gama the secret to immortality so he is quite an important frog. I suppose / assume the figure is Gama. The website I use to find my gods is I think uploaded with this reply. The funniest part is there is a god top 10 and god of the day which is so very funny I think. A light hearted take on a serious subject.

Thank you David,
It is always refreshing to receive a new angle of a very old story - especially when it deals with a three legged frog ;-)

Likely an older Chinese or Japanese depiction of the Daoist immortal Liu Hai (Gama Sennin in Japan) and his magical companion the three-legged Money Toad. Wikipedia has more on the lore surrounding these two.

Best regards,

Bill H.

Liu Hai was an alchemist in the 1oth century. In the Chinese and Japanese art he is frequently depicted with a mythical three legged toad and a string of cash coins (here attached to his belt). The toad was his magical pet and carried him anywhere he wished. Sometimes the toad would hide in a well and have to be coaxed out with a shiny gold coin.
Liu Hai is revered as a God of Prosperity.

With regards,
I.Nagy

The cultural link between a frog and coins seems like a big leap, yet it makes you think how powerful can a symbolic distance become. Thank you very much for the enlightening explanation!
