Subject:Plate - Origin/age, Reproduction?
Posted By: Another One Mon, Aug 21, 2023 IP: 136.228.224.179 We had a plate donated and have been unable to find out anything about it as there are no obvious markings. Any help/insight would be appreciated |

Posted By: Bill H Tue, Aug 22, 2023 The sand accretions within the foot ring suggest the plate probably was made after 1856, in which year imperial forces of the Xianfeng Emperor regained control over the Jingdezhen Porcelain-producing City, which had been heavily damaged by the circa five-year occupation by Taiping rebels. It took nearly a generation of rebuilding kilns and retraining potters, artists and other workers to repair the damage, and black sand residues were common until all the kilns were rebuilt and adjusted for optimum temperatures. |

Posted By: plasticman Wed, Aug 23, 2023 Stylistically the enamels appear to be 1860-1870 vintage. The faces and gold background are compatible with those on a V and A plate of that era. For rose medallion, the brushwork and detailing are quite nice. |
