Subject:Shishi Rider Identity Sought

Bought this carved Shishi & rider and wonder if the rider is a specific person that I can determine what he carried in his missing arms?

Unfortunately, I don't know exactly who the figurine on the lion's back depicts.
Customarily, pictures (figures) showing men riding on lions are almost invariably depict scenes from the Chinese classical mythical novel "The Investiture of the Gods" (封神演義).

With regards,

According to Wikipedia and the auction where I found the below image, China's non-Han Donghu AKA Hu people in Tang and earlier times developed a reputation for lion-dancing in festivals, leading them to be represented as Shishi Riders in later Chinese art. The rider in the image her has a similar hairdo as yours.

Best regards,

Bill H.
