Hello everyone, i have bought this seal because it intriqued me. Can't find anything like it on the internet. It seems to have genuine oxedation and cuprite on the surface and has gilding. If someone knows more about this seal i would realy like to hear it. And the translation of the seal script would also be welcome. Thanks.

自永林印　- Seal of Zi Yonglin
Zi is a rare surname of Mongolian origin, was common in Yuan Dynasty times.
The artificial patination of Chinese bronzes is a common practice.

Dear mr Nagy, thank you for the translation. I have looked at the seal with 10x and 25x magnefication and could see that the corosion and oxedization is not arteficial and it matches a photo taken in a labratory of an ancient bronze statue.

the photo above is the one taken in a lab of an ancient statue en it is the same what i see through my loop glasses qua corosion and oxedization.

Nothing left but to bow down to science.

Dear Mr. Nagy, you mentioned that the seal reads Seal of Zi Yonglin. But i can't find any reference to this name or to a seal bearing the name. Is the translation correct? or is it a fantasy name on a replica seal?

You are right - I have to order new reading glasses - the first character has one less stroke, so it is not 自 Zi but 白　Bai.
Therefore, the reading of seal should be 白永林印
Seal of Bai Yonglin.
Configuration in reversed reflection,
林白
印永
It is a very common Chinese surname and given name.
