Subject:Chinese rubbing text
Posted By: Bill Soester Mon, Jan 23, 2023 IP: 172.58.99.164

Purchased this rubbing (approx 2x5 feet) in China approximately 35 years ago. Can anyone advise what theme or fable is depicted? A picture of the rubbing is attached as is an enlargement of the inscribed text.

Reading;

A rough translation of the text;

Being inseparable from the body and mind
We should not be unhappy
Be relaxed and confortable
To be respected is to respect others
Man`s name is only quality
You cant let yourself die, but you will die
Love is dead, the mountain over the ditch and water is high
Long I took refuge to the place where Bodhisattvas
and parrots live
It can be said that bathing is clean
I slowly float away from Chan (Buddhism)
Inscription and engraving by Hudaoren

Unidentifiable pseudonym.

With regards,
I.Nagy

I. Nagy,
I had been told that the text was a very old type of Chinese characters, so I appreciate your being able to translate it.
Do you have any knowledge of the fable or legend depicted in the scene? I bought it in a shop in Beijing and best I recall, the shopkeeper said the scene had something to do with a goddess, mud drops, and babies. Unfortunately, I did not write the information done.
Regards,
Bill
