This chuban size print of daruma (bodhidharma) is signed but I cannot find this signature anywhere else on the net.

774-836, Japanese Buddhist monk, calliographer and poet who founded the Shingon School of Buddhism is depicted on the print.

The inscription is a tanka (short poem) by Kōbō Daishi.
(Alternative kanas for technical reasons are transcribed into their modern forms)
Wasurete mo
Kumiya shitsuran
Tabibito no
Kōya no oku no
Tamagawa no mizu
I worry you will forget not to draw it,
Traveler, It is the water of the Tama River behind
Mt. Kōya
(This is a worry that traveller will inadvertently draw water without knowing that it is poisonous)

Signature reads,
Painted by Tachikawa

Most probably Utagawa Kunigo (or Kunisato)
Tachikawa was one of his pseudonyms.
Disciple of 3rd gen.Toyokuni

With regards,
I.Nagy

Correction,
The correct reading of 立川 is "Ritsusen" (Not Tachikawa)

See under Kunisato
