Subject:Kaburaki Sei Bowl (Kutani)
Posted By: David C Mon, Sep 26, 2022 IP: 2.102.241.72

Dear All
Hope everything is fine.
I worked this out as being Kaburaki Sei which as I understand makes it quite special.

Do I read it correctly and can you tell me how old it is because I just can't seem to fix it down to an era? Could be Meiji but conceavably be much later. I am a bit lost.
Thanks in advance
D

Here are some previous informative Forum exchanges regarding the same Kutani mark and its permutations in Romanization.

It's indeed a Kaburaki signature (Kutani 九谷 Kaburaki 鏑木 Sei 製).
I have no idea about the age, however, Kaburaki is still in business, so you might asked them about more information, see email:

Dear Martin
As you suggested I wrote to the factory. It took weeks and multiple follow ups to get a response but in the end a very nice person replied. Meiji or Taisho and not really able to help more. That was the answer. I was suprised. I was sure they would know and be proud to show off an archive but the reply was short. Never mind. I am none the wiser although the lady did mention the decoration being superior and thus older but I I knew this I think.

Thank you everybody for your help as always. I am going to send an email to them as suggested. How interesting.
Best wishes
