Subject:Raised Velvet Artwork with Two Crowned Figures with Wings
Posted By: Mark Mon, Aug 15, 2022 IP: 169.148.22.18

Painted raised velvet (theorem stencil) of two crowned figures with wings, holding hands and flying over a mountainous terrain.

I bought this at a yard sale. Can anyone tell me which country it probably comes from? And who are the two figures in the artwork who have white faces, gold crowns, and green wings?

This is a so called Kalaga, a tapestry made in Thailand or Burma (Myanmar), propably the latter. Since the background decoration is fairly simple I would suggest a later dating in the 80s or 90s of the 20th century. Subject might be derived from the Ramayana.

Regards
