Subject:Buddhist Alter Transcription
Posted By: Laura Mander Wed, Jun 30, 2021 IP: 120.17.83.63

Could someone please provide a transcription of the stamp. Also what would the proper name for this item be and how old? Looks like it is made of resin, thought it was wood originally. Many thanks for your assistance. Cheers Laura

This is a Chinese three-fold hand-carved Buddhist traveling shrine. Carved with flowers and characters to back, the inside is carved with motifs of Bodhisattvas and a figure of Avalokiteshvara, associated with safe travel. Signed with a Qianlong seal to the underside. From what I can find these were likely produced in the 20th century.
