Elm bark fiber with cotton stripes, applique and embroidery

Ainu

The fibers were taken from the inner bark of elm trees, soaked in water, split and then dried. Decoration consists of cotton warp stripes and cotton cloth appliqued onto the garment with chain stitching superimposed on the applique.
