Posted By: Lorenz Sun, Jun 05, 2011 Back in the 80' I bought a painting from the artist. Left were just two. As far as I remember yours was the second. Signature is the same as mine. Your painting is in the traditional style while mine was influenced by Bonnet. The shop was situated in Hannoman street and as far as I know is still there selling musical instruments althought his son or grand son is painting as well. As for Ding he was in his old age, very thin and very reluctant to sell me that painting. |

Posted By: Stew Tue, Jun 14, 2011 After multiple internet searches and forum inquiries, you are the first person who knows of him. None of the SEA galleries in Hong Kong know him. I do remember at least one, maybe two other paintings like this one. He was alive when I bought it and I remember the negotiation with his grandson (?) who said this could be one of his last paintings. (hence, he could not reduce the price much). Had I had the money, I would have bought another. |

Posted By: Steve Sun, Nov 25, 2012 I purchased a painting from Mr. Ding in 1992 from his shop in Ubud. I was a poor student, and spent a few days scrutinizing the paintings for sale around the area. I especially liked his place and this one painting of Garuda and Cita. It had special meaning to me. I recall his grandson and granddaughter in the store. I talked with him about painting and Bali. He talked about how he was tight with Mr Spies (he put his two thumbs together and said "spies, like that" implying that they were close). It was really cool. |
