Asian Wood Carving (Rosewood?)

Message
I recently purchased this carved figurine from a local thrift store. I normally don't purchase items like this but it seemed so wonderfully carved and the price was great. It measures about 9" tall including the base and has a few splits in the wood and a screwed on base. One eye is missing the white glass/paint(?) insert. This figurine probably was made for export. Can you tell me who this depicts, if it is made of rosewood, how old it might be, if it indeed is hand-carved, and any other important things I should know about it.
