Message Hello, I'm hoping to get some information about this curious rectangular Brass / Bronze item. It appears to have been painted in some way in the past, is very heavy (approximately 17lbs) and is 16" wide x 14" Tall with an 1 1/4" hole in the middle. I don't see any makers marks, front or back. My wife and I have decided it must have been the surround for a door knob many years ago but that's just us playing Liars poker. We have no idea. To us it is a beautiful knick knack sitting on a shelf. Hopefully you can enlighten us with it's actual purpose, what is it, what was it used for? It's age, origin etc. Any information would be appreciated! Thank you, Brian |
