Message 松洞主龜城老人 - Shōdō-shu Kijō-rōjin - Shōdō-shu the old Man of Turtle Castle Upper seal, 奥陽宗人 - Okuyō Shujin - Clansman of Okuyō (Inner part of Southern Honshu Region) Lower seal, 自樂渇至 - Yearning for enjoyment (Leisure seal) In the literature there is only one painter with art name (gō)Shōdō;Matsuura Shōdō 松浦松洞 1837-1862 His original given name was Kametarō 龜太郎 (Turtle boy) - this could be the connotation to the pseudonym and subject of picture. He was a close associate to Yoshida Shōin, one of Japan's distinguished intellectual in the late years of the Tokugawa Shogunate. According to literature only 6 original paintings are known from him !!!!! With regards, I.Nagy Post a Response |
