Chinese or Japanese Fan |

Message Chinese fan, dated early autumn of the 巳丑 year (which is probably 1949, even though that was a tumultuous year and there aren't a lot of dated works from that year; 1889 is also possible), painted in Shanghai by a Xu Bing 徐冰 who uses the art name 秀水 "Xiushui". What is going to make this guy hard to identify is that there is a contemporary artist with the same name (same characters) who is _very_ well known and is crowding out attempts to search on your artist. The seal with the design of a traditional coin reads "Prosperity is just ahead; China Painting Gallery", and isn't a trademark or shop sign I recognize. It no doubt belongs to the gallery that sold the picture some years after it was painted. Post a Response |
