gold gilt bronze elephant figure - Age? Origin? |
Posted By: TimG Posted Date: Feb 01, 2018 (09:55 PM) |
Message I would appreciate some help identifying the age and origin of this bronze elephant figure. The previous owner purchased it in the 1980's in Thailand, but had no info on the age or if it was from Thailand or not. It's heavy...about 25 lbs...about 10" tall(not including the wood base) and about 10" from tip of trunk to back foot. Nice casting...most of the gilt has worn off, so I'm assuming it has been handled a lot. Casting seems very fine...no rough areas or bubbles to suggest sand casting techniques. Nothing came up on Google for Thailand Bronze gilt elephant that looks like this figure. It doesn't look Chinese or Japanese, so I'm at a loss. Help would be appreciated. Thank you. TimG |
