Re: Four character over glaze blue Qianlong mark on exquisite vase |

Message Some Qianlong period porcelains had overglaze blue marks in clerical script like this one, but your vase is of a figural painting style that more resembles that of the mid-20th century (late Republic - early People's Republic), when female figures were beginning to look a bit more like Barbie Dolls than traditional Chinese beauties. Here's another vase from that period with what I believe is the same decoration as yours, showing the Qiao Sisters, heroines from the classic "Romance of the Three Kingdoms", as they cast their fortune through the I Jing, surrounded by attendants. While the figural art is much the same style as on yours, this vase has a red six-character overglaze Qianlong mark. Best regards, Bill H. ![]() |
