Re: Japanese Satsuma markings on ivory & gold plates/dishes |

Message The cross within a circle in red is from the Satsuma crest or "mon". The two characters in gilt on a gilt-lined black square read down as "Nikko" (日光 - literally "sunshine"), the name of the maker. Please see the link for further information. Best regards, Bill H.
