I hope that visitors to this forum will post their opinions on this interesting subject. Many modern Asian traditions have developed what might be termed "political" attitudes towards certain styles of art, and we are interested to have comments on these developments.

editor, Asianart.com Very interesting educative and thought-provoking article; I bought 2 watercolours recently, which were listed as PACIFIC ISLAND SCENES; I did realise, these were definately not of pacific island origin and to me it reminded me of other pictures I had seen of the former Dutch indies; that is how I arrived on your site; one watercolour is signed by SOEWARDJA and the second one, I can not read.I Agree with your view, that ALL art of a given land or culture is and always will be a part of the Art history of that land; to deny that, is to deny historic reality and fact; former SOVJET art is a good example: it is and alwas should be part of Russian Art history; greetings, Dirk.
