Message I'm guessing this one possibly to be a modern Chinese fake of Japanese Imari. Most common late-Meiji Imari-palette export ware had its naive moments but still managed to achieve a mostly uncluttered consistency. There's a noticeable inconsistency in quality of decoration among various parts of the piece. I suspect it may come from the use of hand coloring over decals on some areas and attempts at free-hand art elsewhere by someone without training. Not very nice of them to halve the Ho Ho bird's cartouche in any event. Best regards, Bill H. Post a Response |
