Mechag - Traditional fire-iron from Tibet |
Posted By: Harry Primate Posted Date: Apr 27, 2009 (08:00 AM) |
Message This is a traditional Tibetan "strike a light" kit. Tibetan "Me" (fire) "chag" (iron) were commonly used over a large part of Asia encompassed by traditional Tibetan culture. Usually hung from a belt the pouch would hold a flint and "punk", scraps of flammable material to catch a spark to help ignite a fire. The design elements of your example looks like it probably is Mongolian. ![]() ![]() |
