Message With more than fifty years of experience of living in Japan, it is safe to say that it is Japanese. 光壽司 Hikari-zushi - ca. Splendid Sushi - Name of a sushi restaurant. As of the object thought to be a brush pot, it is a so called "yunomi" 湯呑み or a massive large teacup, used in sushi restaurants.
