I picked up the pronunciation of the name "Sampo" after "Zoshuntei" somewhere along the way because it is used frequently by such revered sources as the British Museum and a number of well known auction houses. Having become reacquainted since returning from my health-related absence from the forum last year to enjoy the welcome wisdom of I.Nagy and other Japanese savants, I shall now endeavor to get back on track with the name "Sanpo" and other alternatives recognized by authoritative language sources. "San" is the primary Japanese reading found for "δΈ‰" in the Unihan Data base, while only Tang Dynasty, Korean and Cantonese employed phonetic pronunciations similar to "Sam".

Cheers,

Bill H.
