Posted By: Bill H Thu, Dec 13, 2018 The mark reads down and across from the right in two stacks as "Made by Zoshuntei Sampo" (Zoshuntei Sampo Zo). This was a well known studio that painted Arita (formerly "Hizen") ceramics circa the late 19th century. I tend to believe your dish may be a stand for larger vase, planter or censer, among other possibilities. Its decoration is rather tame compared the usual items I've seen from the Meiji period with this mark. Here's a piece bearing the signature in its usual red color. It has a bronze collar and is missing its cover. The elevated feet suggest it may have been a censer. |

Posted By: Elke Sun, Dec 16, 2018 Thank you very much for sharing you knowledge and the further information about the origin of this item, dear I. Nagy and also dear Bill. This was very helpful and interesting. I am always very happy and impressed by your potential and rich experience and knowledge in japanese/chinese antiques and I really envy the capability in reading signs on it. |
