It is bone and I'm thinking first quarter 20th century also Mark. I was hoping someone could translate what is written and possible have a name associated...

Inscription in my rough translation,

People around the world can be humble, happy or angry
It is just a matter of face,
Show off your natural look in style
Qing Dynasty, Shunzhi reign

Some characters appear in their post 1956 simplified form. 20th century object.

"It is just a matter of face" & "Show off your natural look in style" is why the man is looking in a mirror and my first interpretation from that scene is that he was looking back at his youth in the mirror and reflecting how fast time goes by.
