Subject:Exact name on this Hokusai's signature
Posted By: Stephane Jardonnet Fri, Nov 04, 2022 IP: 2600:1700:4394:5000:

Hello,

I am aware that these two signatures are from Hokusai, but can someone tell me what is the exact name used on these two signatures ?

Thank you in advance :)

After research, I do believe ( I could be wrong ) that the first one reads " Hokusai sori ga " ?

For the second seal, I can read Katsushika Hokusai on the left line, it's the first one that I cannot read :)

天保 is the era (-1833) and I assume that he put the year. 甲辰 kinoe tatsu is Dragon (Chinese Zodiac) and is the year’s zodiac and 中春(chu-jyun ) means a middle of Spring.

I am writing from Japanese television, TV Asahi.

We are currently looking to uncover Hokusai's work as a part of our television production.
We are wondering if it is possible to make a feature in our show if you own any Hokusai's work. I'd be grateful if you could be in touch with me to discuss the terms and conditions of the filming.

We have an appointment with Hokusai and a Japanese art specialist in December, and your work can be looked at by the experts for valuation in the Antique Roadshow style if you wish.

I know my friend who has a selection of Hokusai paintings and maybe he can be of any help. I know there a few Japanese galleries in London, you might be able to get information about Hokusai fans. You should check out this place called Japanese Gallery in Islington, London.

Thank you very much for your kind reply, Marie.
I'd be very grateful if you could kindly make an introduction to your friend who owns Hokusai's work.
Our program is an educational show, and we do not plan a valuation of the works any longer, but we would like to show how Ukiyo-e and Hokusai became popular in Europe since the 1878 World’s Fair in Paris. My email address is : hanakokuyama@gmail.com. Also my mobile/WhatsApp/Text is : 07795567486
