Subject:Bronze vase identification & translation
Posted By: joamuse Mon, Mar 20, 2017 IP: 2601:018f:0802:aa80:

I have 2 of these bronze vases and I was wondering a few things.
Are they Japanese?
Should they have lids?
Is it possible to translate the maker mark on the bottom?

While there is what appears to be an apocryphal Ming dynasty date around the top of the vessel, the base explains that this is Japanese : Dai Nippon, Made by Yoshida of Kyoto.

It's a mark by the Kyoto bronze maker Yoshida, reading 大日本 吉田造 京都 (Dai Nippon - Yoshida zô - Kyôto).

For another maker's mark by Yoshi see link to older tread below.

Guy.
