Subject:Help Identifying Marks with Crane/Clouds/Characters
Posted By: Asian Porcelain Beginner Tue, Jan 21, 2014 IP: 108.44.74.32 Hello. Please help me identify this mark in the photo below. I believe this to be a Meiping with a snowflake blue glaze having five cranes in flight among clouds above the sea and rocks. The mark has a crane with clouds in the middle with writing around it in blue underglaze. Any assistance identifying the origin, age, mark, etc. would be most helpful! |

Posted By: rat Wed, Jan 22, 2014 Your description is correct but this is newly/recently made. If you are currently purchasing things I suggest you hold off on further purchases and start flipping through books and auction catalogs on Chinese porcelain to get a sense of what shapes, glazes, and periods most interest you. Look to the major dealers to see how frequently quality objects are actually available. You will discover that the vast, vast majority of Chinese porcelain (antiques of all sorts actually) for sale is manufactured to deceive potential buyers, so the more you are informed about what you are purchasing before you do so the better off you will end up. |
