Posted By: Bill H Fri, Jun 15, 2012 The vase's apocryhal mark of the 18th century Qianlong emperor has a calligraphic characteristic in its first (da - great) character that appears to me to date it to the 19th century or later. Also, the 'mille fleurs' (thousand flower) pattern veers somewhat from the design and palette that were standard on such dishes, which were some of the most popular export ceramics produced in China during the late Qing and early Republic period. My overall impression is that this vase may be a late 20th century product. |

Posted By: jane hogan Wed, Aug 29, 2012 My parents married in Shanghai in 1925 and a teaset in this patteren was given as a gift to them by a Chines friend. It also has the black background as seen in the vase, lots of beautiful painting. I was told it was before the 1900's. would like to know more |

Posted By: Dave C Fri, Jun 15, 2012 I am new to all this myself but I think I have found the info your looking for. The mark is Da Qing Qianlong Nian Zhi, Great Qing Qianlong Period Make, probably from the 1930-40's. |

Posted By: Bill H Fri, Jun 15, 2012 In addition to my previous posting, here is a link to a Sotheby's auction result with an illustration of a Jiaqing era (1796-1820) mille fleurs box. This will provide an excellent illustration of an earlier version of the pattern. The zoom feature also permits a close-up view of differences between decoration on your vase and a piece in the period style. Due to the length of the URL, I'm pasting it below for copying and pasting into your browser. |
