Anyway, please I need a little help from you guys here. These are stuffs that my grandfather bought it before I was born(more than 30yrs). Hi Pete,

Well, to start off the vases are Chinese in style. The first pair are copies of Ming dynasty Wanli reign wucai vases in the archaic 'gu' shape. As far as copies go, yours is actually fairly decent in quality. You said that your grandfather purchased these more than 30 years ago ... but those were difficult decades and copies like yours were not made then. There is a possibility that yours could be a late Qing/republic era (late 1800s to 1940s) copy. But I'm not sure about this. Others in the forum will be able to help you better.

As for the second vase ... this definitely cannot be older than 30/40 years. It can't even be considered a copy. It's a weird combination of flambe and famille verte. The green overglaze enamel is just awful.

Hope this info is somewhat helpful.

Best wishes,

Mengruo

Thanks a lot Mengruo. For that pair, about last year I gave to someone in Christies to checked it. They said this pair is old, but I should wait for a little more time. Anyway, I also have something else, please review it and feel free to tell me your idea. again thanks :)

pete,

All your stuff look modern to me. Did you ask christie's how old are your pair of vases, and what is the value.

Hi Pete,

With the exception of the first pair, I'd say the rest of your porcelain are modern. I'd recommend keeping them in your family; it'll be antique to your children/grand children.

As for the first pair, I've actually seen vases of this exact style and mark in auction before. If I remember correctly, the pair I last saw was given an auction estimate of $800-$1000. I doubt Christie's will consign your vases, but you can always try a smaller auction house.

The real value of your things probably rest with the ivory. Prices are rising these days, especially ivory Chinese works of art. Just make sure to get them appraised ... sometimes ox bone or plastic/resin can be substituted to make something appear ivory-like.

Best wishes,

Mengruo

Thanks for your suggestion Mengruo,I'm appreciated. For the first pair I've no worries, it'll be antique sometime in the future, like you said. But from all those vases that I have, the third one (painted something like lion in blue) is made me doubt. I did some research through the web. The chinese mark under the vase is Chenghua 1465-1487. And one of my mom's chinese friend came to my place many years ago. He mentioned about this vase. He told my mom that this one is old and should take good care of it. please, I need suggestion. Thanks

The vase with the "lion" is not modern.
It is a late 19th C. "crackleware" piece. In Western Europe, we call these wares Nanking-wares. The reason being that a lot of this type was exported through the port of Nanking.

The lion is not a lion but actually a foo dog, these are mythical beasts that are often portrayed. They used to guard the entrances to temples - and bring newspapers and slippers to their owners (no, that's just a joke).

It's not a spectacular piece. It does have some value, but nothing exaggerated.

Good luck!
