Are some greenware (iron-glaze) pots in junyao shapes, maybe fired not enough long, so bubbles not form full opalescent look, maybe cooled too fast.

Glaze hint at guanyao but ware not right and not layers glaze.

Your bowl very nice form, color. Have worm tracks, snail trails?

Here different sample.

Think northern ware but do not know when.

Good luck,
Cal

Dear Cal,

Thank so much for your sharing for this bowl.
The form is indeed typical nothern celadon of junyao bubble bowl , but it is also exist in hangzhou guan ware and longquan guan type of the southern song period.

in My humble opinion, the glaze more closer to jiaotanxia guan than laohudong. Am I wrong ?
Other opinions are welcome and highly appreciated.
Regards, Yo.

Yo,

Yes I read your thought toward 'guanyao' in first message. Remember 'guan' was try imitate Ruyao color, layer crackle, translucence-depth.

Southern 'guan' not leave bare red-burn clay at foot, glaze complete, use stilts in kilns, sometimes though color foot dark purple/brown to appear ruyao.

Not much known about Longquan experiments, but such could not be called 'guanyao' made Palace precinct.

Details to look for are very very thin ware, many layers glaze each own crackle. Some known guanyao, glaze thicker than ware.

My eyes do not submerge within glaze of yours, but still very nice bowl.

Good luck,
Cal

Glaze and clay body look like Longquan to me , not really close to Junyao at all. The bowl shape and foot trim suggest Southern Song period not a more common Ming piece.

I can't remember other Longquan bowl has a metal or exposed rim before. It is interesting. Guanyao are much higher in quality in potting and material as well.

Dear cal and KK,

Thank you for your sharing opinion. All are highly appreciated.

The bowl is not junyao, but in my humble opinion either southern song jiaotanxia guan ware or longquan guan type of the same period. I am my self tend to jiatonxia than longquan (not because i am the owner of this bowl). clay on song guan ware can be dark grey, dark brown, grey (burnt orange or not). Clay this bowl is grey burnt russet orange in the firing. The glaze similar to jiaotanxia examples in the comparison below.

Opinion are welcome.
Regard, Yo.

That's a lovely genuine "开门“ Southern Song Dynasty LongQuan bowl。 (not Jun)

It is really a great piece (in its category). I mean it is perfect :proportion, glaze color, a very delicate work.

Find ceramics with no defect is easy, but a ceramic like yours is a above that...(in its own category) that Longquan small bowl represent an achievement of Song dynasty arts and technique. Simple, pure, delicate...

From the glaze conservation also this piece is more than correct, (glaze surface shows evidence of burial).

Frankly my heart beats for that kind of stuff! Great!

Pipane

PS. We are witnessing now the rebirth of Chinese artistic ceramic production...modern Longquan artistic ceramics are just breathtaking...
