I purchased this scroll and was hoping to get a translation. Thanks!

My research:

Painted in the Dinghai year (1947)
The painters hand in Jinghua
Baishi

It appears to be hand painted. I could x-ray if that would help.

I purchased this from the family that had inherited a collection purchased in the 20th century. Many items still had high end auction house lot stickers. Unfortunately the scroll did not.

丁亥八十七歳白石
Dinghai(1947)87 Years Old Baishi
畫于京華
Painted at the Capital (Beijing)
Upper seal,
白石 Baishi
Lower seal,
阿芝 Azhi (Was Qi Baishi's nickname)

Back,
齊白石先生貝葉蟲图
Master Qi Baishi's Insects on Palm Leaves Painting
(Unfortunately, the seal impression has been smudged beyond recognition)

Starting in the early 1950s, a Beijing-based publishing house called Rongbaozhai developed the water-based woodblock printing technique, which allows for the most faithful reproduction of paintings. The painter Qi Baishi also contributed to the development of this technique, and as a result, many of his works have been reproduced using this method. It is impossible to determine the authenticity of this painting based solely on a photograph.

With regards,
I.Nagy

Thanks Mr.Nagy! That explains what looks to me to be a print. Still an attractive scroll. And it’s nice to have an accurate translation.

Looking under high magnification, some of the lines have spaces and are not continuous leading me to believe this is a print.
