The sixth-generation painter of the Kanō family of Kobikichō — his name was Naganobu, the eldest son of Korenobu — by the pseudonym Genshōsai.
He was conferred the title of Hōin and took the name Isen'in. Although he is said to have adhered to his father’s painting style, his ink-wash and cursive calligraphy strongly reflected the style of Naonobu. He was widely regarded as a master of his craft and maintained a deep friendship with Matsudaira Fumai, a master of the tea ceremony.
He passed away on July 3, Bunsei 11.(1828)
This was 150 years ago, up until Shōwa 50.(1978)
