Subject:Re: Translation of a signature

Dear jean-gabriel
Since no one has helped you so far, here are my thoughts... I am not sure about this, but it seems to me that Shōkōsai Hanbei (松好斎半兵衛), whose signature reads 松好画 (Shōkō ga, meaning "drawn by Shōkō"), could possibly match your piece. I think further study is necessary, though. At first, I thought the inscription in the upper right could be read as 景清 (Kagekiyo)... So, what if I told you my guess is that the character's name reads "蝦蔵" (Ebizō), I mean "景清蝦蔵" (Ebizō as Kagekiyo)? Does that make sense? If so, the figure could be the Kabuki actor Ichikawa Ebizō (市川蝦蔵) portraying the character Akushichibyōe Kagekiyo. But I am just a humble African-Brazilian student of this beautiful language, and I still have a long way to go!
Best regards,
Renato Araújo
