Subject:Chinese Painting
Posted By: Cynthia Sat, Jan 17, 2026 IP: 50.37.101.237

Hello,
I was hoping someone might be able to tell me more about this painting. Maybe the maker, what the writing says and what the chops/seals indicate?
Any help is very appreciated.
I apologize for the less than clear photos. The frame is in bad shape and dirty but I don’t want to remove it until I have someone skilled in doing so to help.

dated 1991, only indication of artist may be the seal under the inscription, but this is decorative rather than fine art, a wish for long life (from the title as well as the depiction of cranes and pines). the seals you posted images of are facsimiles of some of the better known collector's seals belonging to the Qianlong emperor (r. 1736-1795). the earliest surviving auspicious picture of this type dates from the Huizong court, and is discussed in Peter Sturman's "Cranes over Kaifeng" article.

Thank you so much. I really love the piece and I enjoy knowing more about it. So my assumption is this is a print or copy? I haven’t had a chance to take it out of the frame to better look at the material.
Is there any cultural issue with me having this hanging in my home? I don’t want to be offensive to anyone.
I attached a closer picture of the stamp under the script. If that helps with artist name.

Sure. It doesn't strike me as hand copied from someone else's work but it might be machine printed from a source image, perhaps with inscription and seal added thereafter. It's a silk surface; you don't need to remove it from the frame and should feel no concern about hanging it up wherever you like to enjoy.

The characters in the seal I can't quite make out, something vaguely along the lines of 錻飛 but I can't read the first character at the right clearly. At best it will provide an artist's given name, but it will be quite difficult if not impossible to determine who that is.
