Dear Andrea,
The content of the inscription is identical to the preface, except for the five characters in the first line and the date. In my humble opinion,
despite all the similarities, the inscription on the picture is the calligraphy of another person.
此為即我胸中之山也惟是言告無法莫有
所依自知其険劣之丑醉心聞餘奥所集耳
鵬斎老人寫
This is precisely the mountain within my heart.
Yet these words are but declarations without substance, without support.
I myself know its danger, inferiority, and ugliness.
Drunkenly, I listen to the remaining mysteries collected here.
Painted by Bosai the Old Man
Upper seal,
鵬斎 Bōsai
Lower seal,
太平醉民 Taihei suimin - Peaceful drunken commoner - Pseudonym
Starting seal,
醒狂 - Seikyō - Wake up crazy
Back,
鵬斎之畫 - Bōsai's painting
With regards,
I.Nagy
