Subject:Mark on Condiment Set
Posted By: Meagain Mon, Dec 22, 2025 IP: 77.162.60.70

Dear knowledgeable people,

Can one of you tell me if this is a silver mark, a silver plate mark, a maker's mark, or something else? (I hope right side's up ...)

(silly me, posted this earlier on the message board...)

九江涂茂興 Jiujiang Tu Maoxing

Tu Maoxing Silver Shop in Jiujiang. It began its history in silver jewelry production and sales as early as the Daoguang era.

With regards,

Thank you very much for this reply/information.
Even now knowing the name, I'm not able to find any similar pieces. I'm only finding more ornate pieces.
Is it possible to date this? And, as it doesn't have a silver mark, will this be silver plated, or could it still be silver?

If you want to make sure that it is pure silver or just silver-plated, show it to a jeweler who can give you a definite answer.

With regards,
I.Nagy
