Subject:Chinese Artwork: Identify Characters and Seal
Posted By: Miano Fri, Mar 14, 2025 IP: 175.176.32.113

Hello Friends,

I would like to identify the artist and/or period.

It is a chinese painting, mounted on a scroll with calligraphy (characters) & a seal. Would you be in a position to translate the characters/seals, advise any artist who this work maybe attributed to and the period(60 year cycle)?

Finally, is this Japanese or Chinese?

Kind regards,

Miano

Japanese,
春山新標
昭和辛未夏日
松雲仙史
Spring mountains and fresh treetops
On a Summer Day of the Year of Metal-Sheep (1931)
Shōun-senshi (Hermit of the Pine Clouds)
Lower seal,
松雲 Shōun
Upper seal,
Illegible

Most probably Yokoyama Shōun 横山松雲 1884-1964
Native of Gunma prefecture,
Was a disciple of Komuro Suiun.

With regards,
I.Nagy
