Subject:Chinese lavender jade pendant.
Posted By: Pyx Tue, Feb 04, 2025 IP: 49.224.120.159

I recently acquired this, what I believe to be, a lavender jade pendant.
Unusually for me, the naive archaistic style appealed.
I am interested in opinions pertaining to the period, style, and the staining around the eyes etcetera.

This particular carving is dirty. clean it with a toothbrush and warm water. It does not have to be your own toothbrush.

Thank-you for the advice Ernest.
Do you think the encrustation may be the residue of intentional highlighting with a material such as cinnabar.

Usually we see it where the dealers "age" items.
For prices, bring it to an antique shop

It's impossible to determine by way of a few pictures with jade.
However the stone is very intense colour jadeite and the carving technique is very crude which makes me think that it's probably treated to give the colour.
If this was untreated genuine jadeite jade it would be expensive because of the colour and hence the carving would be more detailed etc etc.
